Student Documentation: Assignments

This video includes how to view the details of your assignments and how to submit an assignment.

 

 

Student Engagement through iLearn Assignments Tool (Click To Expand)

Instructors may require submission of assignments through the iLearn Assignments tool. Assignments may be submitted directly in the Rich Text Editor, as an attached file, or through a combination of these methods.
To access this important tool, go to your desired course site on iLearn and click Assignments in the left-hand toolbar.

When you access this tool, you will see the following:


1. A list of all assignments for the course.
2. The status of each assignment. An assignment can be marked as: 

a. Not Started- You have not begun working on the assignment in iLearn.

b. In Progress- You have begun working on the assignment in iLearn, but have not formally submitted it to   your instructor.

c. Submitted- You have formally submitted the assignment to your instructor on iLearn for grading.

d. Returned- Your instructor has returned your assignment with a grade and feedback.

3. The open date for each assignment, or when you gain access to each assignment to view its details and begin working on it.

4. The due date of each assignment.

To view the details of, begin working on, or formally submit an assignment, click the title of the assignment.
 
Working on and Submitting Assignments through iLearn Assignments Tool

To work on and submit an assignment in the iLearn Assignments tool, do the following:
1. Go to your desired iLearn course site.
2. Click the Assignments tool in the lefthand toolbar.

 


3. Click the title of the assignment you wish to work on or submit.


4. For the assignment you wish to work on or submit, you will see:


a) The title of the assignment

b) The due date of the assignment

c) The number of resubmissions allowed for the assignment

d) The status of the assignment

a. Not Started- You have not begun working on the assignment in iLearn In Progress- You have begun working on the assignment in iLearn, but have not formally submitted it to your instructor.

b. Submitted- You have formally submitted the assignment to your instructor on iLearn for grading

c. Returned- Your instructor has returned your assignment with a grade and feedback

e) The date and time the assignment was last modified by your instructor

f) Any instructions regarding the assignment your instructor provided

***Some instructors may also provide the total possible points that can be earned from the assignment***
 
5. View the method of submission for the assignment under Submission.

Some assignments may only be submitted directly in the Rich Text Editor.

Work directly in the Rich Text editor to add text, media, and other necessary components to your assignment. Refer to the Student Communication through the iLearn Rich Text Editor documentation for further information!


Some assignments may only be submitted as attachments.

To attach a file to an assignment, click Choose File and select a file from your computer or click Select a File from Workplace or Site to select a file already on iLearn. 

NOTE: Most instructors use TurnItIn to screen attachments for plagiarism!

Some assignments may be submitted both directly in the Rich Text Editor and as attachments.

 

6. Regardless of the submission method, save frequently while working!

7. As you work on an assignment, you can:

 


a) Submit to your instructor for grading

NOTE: Your instructor will not receive your assignment for grading until you click Submit. You cannot set your work to automatically submit on the due date- this must be done manually.

b) Preview what your assignment will look like when submitted
c) Save a draft of the assignment and continue working at a later time
d) Cancel your work

NOTE: This does not save or submit your work. Clicking this button will cause all work to be lost!

8. After you click Submit to formally submit your assignment to your instructor for grading, you will see a Submission Confirmation and receive a copy in your Marist official email. This includes:

  

a) The submission ID of the assignment. Record this ID and keep it for your records!

b) A review of what you submitted in your Assignment, including material submitted through the Rich Text Editor and added as attachments.
Some instructors allow for resubmissions of assignments. This varies by instructor and is not automatically an option.
