What is the Digital Education Team Working On

Illustration of a woman using her phone at a desk, with digital icons representing personal data, identity verification, and online security. Our Digital Education (DE) Team is carefully reviewing Brightspace courses to ensure that all materials shared with students follow the latest WCAG 2.2 accessibility guidelines. This initiative ensures compliance with legal standards while reinforcing our commitment to inclusive teaching and learning.

We’ve developed a personalized process to provide faculty with course-specific accessibility reports, including clear guidance on how to resolve any issues. This approach is designed to help all students, regardless of ability, access course materials equitably and without barriers.

We’re not just checking boxes—we’re shaping up for a more inclusive academic experience, one course at a time!

Why Accessibility Matters More Than Ever

This effort is a key part of our commitment to supporting Marist University's core pillars:

  • Student Centrality - By making content accessible, we place students at the heart of every learning experience.
  • Expansive Community - Accessibility removes barriers, helping us welcome and support every learner.
  • Academic Vibrance - Accessible materials foster deeper engagement and allow every student to thrive.

This initiative also aligns with newly expanded federal regulations from the Department of Justice, which require institutions to ensure all digital content is accessible. For more context, we invite you to read this article from Chronicle of Higher Education.
