Color Contrast

Relying on color alone to convey meaning can create barriers for individuals with color blindness or low vision.

To ensure accessibility

  • Avoid using color alone to indicate correct or incorrect answers (e.g., marking correct answers in green and incorrect answers in red).

  • Use text labels or symbols (e.g., checkmarks or crosses) in addition to color.

  • Maintain sufficient contrast between text and background for readability.

  • Apply Color (With Caution)

    • Click on the Select Color (A) icon in the toolbar.

    • Choose from the default color palette or click Custom

    • Make sure your color choice meets contrast requirements and click save to reflect changes.

      • Color selection dialog box with a palette, contrast slider, and hex code input (#202122). Green checkmarks indicate contrast compliance for small and large text. "Save" and "Cancel" buttons are below.

Use Built-In Accessibility Checker

  1. Brightspace has a built-in accessibility checker (look for the figure with a accessibility icon).

  1. Click it before saving to identify color contrast and other issues.
