Piazza Instructor Guides
What is Piazza? Piazza is an external tool that serves as a learning management system which allows for a free online gathering place where students can ask, answer, and explore 24/7 under the guidance of their instructors. Students can post and answer questions in a forum-type format. Instructors are able to moderare the discussion and let students know if they're on the right track. If the instructor allows for it, students are able to anonymously submit questions which can increase participation for students. Multiple students are allowed to contribute to each answer, and each answer has a version history that shows what each student wrote.
As an engaging Q&A platform Piazza can be used:
- To encourage and increase class participation.
- To monitor student's understanding of classroom material.
- To create homework assignments.
Piazza and Brightspace
Adding the Piazza tool to your Brightspace course offering site:
- Access your Brightspace course offering.
Select "Content" on the Navigation bar.
Create a new Unit by clicking "+ New Unit" from the top of the left column in Content OR locate the Unit in which you would like to place the Piazza Integration.
If you create a new Unit, title it "Piazza".
Scroll down to the bottom to toggle the button from Hidden to "Visible".and
Click "Save and Close".
Next click on the new Piazza unit, click "Add Existing".
Then click "External Tool Activities" under What would you like to add.
Scroll down and Click "Piazza " under Insert an External Tool.
The Piazza will now be displayed under the Unit.
Next scroll to the top to toggle the button from Hidden to "Visible".
