What is Simple Syllabus? Simple Syllabus is a centralized, template-driven platform that enables instructors to quickly personalize and publish interactive class syllabi—directly within Brightspace.

Simple Syllabus key features include:

  • Saving instructors time and eliminating redundancies through a single page publishing experience

  • Automatically storing all syllabi campus wide in an easily searchable, centralized repository.

  • Provides a personalized experience for each student with access to both current and past syllabi and their related course materials.

How to Access Simple Syllabus in Brightspace.

  1. Log in to Brightspace using your credentials.

  2. Navigate to the course where you want to access the syllabus.

  3. From the course navigation bar, click on Simple Syllabus.

  4. The Simple Syllabus template chosen by your school will open.

  5. Make any necessary edits directly within the template.

How to Add Simple Syllabus to a Content area in Brightspace:

  1. Log in to Brightspace with your account.

  2. Open the course where you want to add the syllabus.

  3. Click on Content from the course navigation bar.

  4. Choose the appropriate Unit, then click Add Existing in the top-right corner.

  5. Select External Tool Activity—a pop-up window will appear.

  6. Scroll through the list and click on Simple Syllabus LTI Link.

  7. Your Simple Syllabus will be added to Content

How to Manage Assessments Visibility and Sync in Simple Syllabus:

Assignments, Quizzes, Events, and Discussions located within your Brightspace course site can automatically be imported into the syllabus.

  • It is recommended to ensure there is a Due Date for these items so that they will appear in calendar order.

  • Use the trash icon to remove imported items which do not need to be included in the syllabus.

  1. Log in to Brightspace.

  2. Open the Simple Syllabus tool.

  3. Scroll down through the syllabus content.

  4. Locate the Assignments section within the syllabus.

  5. Use the visibility toggle to show or hide assignments as needed.

  6. Click the circular refresh icon in the top-right corner to sync your syllabus assignments with those in the Brightspace gradebook.

Please note that if you need to make changes to items within this section, it is recommended to edit it within Brightspace first and then re-sync it.

  • To re-sync, click on the synchronize schedule button at the top of the list.

  • If you make edits in Simple Syllabus first, the item will no longer update with changes from Brightspace.

Once you have finished making changes to the syllabus and completed all required items:

  1. Click Preview to view your syllabus, and then

  2. Click Submit in order for the changes to be submitted.
