Making tables in Excel accessible is essential to ensure that people with disabilities, such as those using screen readers, can navigate and understand the content effectively.

To ensure your Excel files are accessible to all users, follow these best practices:

Use Clear and Structured Headings

Use Column and Row Headings: Always label the columns and rows clearly so that the data is easy to interpret.

  • Add descriptive headers to the first row of the table that explain the content of each column.

  • Use bold font for headers to differentiate them from the rest of the data.

Format the Data as a Table 

  • Convert data into an official Excel table to improve navigation and usability.  

  • Select your data range (including headers). 

  • Go to the Insert tab and click Table. 

  • In the Create Table dialog box, ensure the "My table has headers" checkbox is selected and click OK.
